Pieces of Missing Aircraft Located off Coast of Cape Breton

CAPE BRETON, NOVA SCOTIA – Two pieces of fuselage recovered off the coast of Cape Breton on Saturday are believed to be from the missing Cessna 414A.

The pieces of the missing aircraft were located yesterday afternoon by a husband and wife who were sailing near Scatterie Island which is located 3 kms off the eastern coast of Cape Breton; approximately 20 Kms south of the designated search area.

The search for the missing aircraft will continue today utilizing the RCMP Coastal Watch Vessel the Preventor, which is equipped with a side scan sonar, a Zodiac Hurricane and the Bay Leader, a private 45 foot trawler equipped with a remotely operated vessel (ROV).

Dennis Michael Forgeron (43) and Ronald David Johnston (57) both of Calgary, Alberta were onboard the Cessna 414A when it went missing over the Atlantic Ocean on August 5th. Both men are believed to have died in the crash.

The RCMP are requesting that anyone with information pertaining to this incident or who finds any debris that may be related to the wreckage please call 1-800-272-9569.
