SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA – The RCMP confirm they have located what is believed to be the crash site of the missing Cessna off Cape Breton.
Late Monday afternoon, utilizing a side scan sonar and remotely operated vehicle, a portion of the aircraft’s fuselage was located in 52 meters (170 feet) of water approximately 6 nautical miles off of Glace Bay, NS.
In addition to the fuselage, human remains were located and retrieved. The remains will be transported to the Medical Examiners office for identification.
The search is suspended for today due to unfavorable weather conditions and given the changing conditions of the water, it is unknown when this phase of the recovery will resume.
The RCMP would like to thank the families and community for their continued support and involvement in this investigation.
The RCMP continues to request anyone that believes they have found debris that is related to the wreckage to please call 1 800 272 9569.
