Intoxicated Man Runs Across Runway at YLW

September 28th, 2010 ~ No Comments

KELOWNA, BC – Most people can take a hint when they see a ten foot chain link and barbed wire fence with “No trespassing” signs on it. But clearly, some people can’t.

On September 25th at just before 1 a.m., police arrested a 19 year old Kelowna male who was found sitting in a van, that belonged to an airline company. The van was parked near a building approximately 500 feet from the runway at the Kelowna International Airport. An airport employee, who found the intoxicated man, enlisted the help of the Airport Fire Crew, who kept the belligerent suspect in the van until police arrived. Apparently the man had come from a house party on Old Vernon Rd. He climbed over the chain link and barbed wire fence surrounding the runway, ran across the runway, and attempted to steal the van.

The man is facing charges of Mischief, Theft Under, and Trespass under the Canadian Aviation Regulations. He was released, once he attained sobriety, to appear in Court on November 29th.
