October 14th, 2010 ~ No Comments

CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – In response to the discovery of a suspicious item within a piece of checked baggage at Campbell River Airport, 2 adult males were detained for questioning and have since been released. The investigation revealed the item is a replica metal hand grenade used for grinding organic material, commonly marijuana.

Thankfully a safe conclusion was brought to incident however Campbell RCMP want to ensure the message is clear about using common sense when packing items for air travel.

“This just shows how a lapse in judgment can have tremendous consequences” states Cst. Alexa Blacklock, “The airport was closed for almost 4 hours, inconveniencing over 40 travelers and personnel getting to connecting flights and destinations. It forced an enormous unnecessary use of resources, including specialized units, fire, police and security staff.”

The investigation into the incident continues however charges are not expected.
