Esterline CMC Electronics Reaches Milestone in SureSight Enhanced Flight Vision System Sensor Shipments

October 19th, 2010 ~ No Comments

ATLANTA – Esterline CMC Electronics has achieved a milestone in production deliveries of its SureSight® Enhanced Flight Vision System sensors, and will ship its 400th EFVS sensor in late October 2010.

CMC’s SureSight family of integrated sensor systems is designed to meet demanding video performance, reliability and quality standards, and continues to be the leading choice for airframe manufacturers and prime contractors. CMC’s integrated sensor systems offer enhanced situational awareness in adverse operating conditions and enable operators to take advantage of regulations expanding the operational capabilities of aircraft equipped with an EFVS.

CMC’s EFVS sensors provide outstanding image quality and weather penetration, and allow operators to take advantage of the Federal Aviation Administration and European Aviation Safety Agency regulations providing for enhanced landing capabilities, as well as increased safety. They are aimed at the high-end corporate/ business jet and air transport markets for use with a head up display, a head down display, or both. CMC’s EFVS sensors weigh less than 21 lbs, and are based on the latest technology, cryogenically cooled Indium Antimonide (InSb) detector system that is dual-band, operating in both 1.2 – 2.5 microns shortwave infrared and 3.8 – 5.0 microns midwave infrared spectrums.

CMC’s family of integrated sensor systems features the SureSight I-Series™ CMA-2600 integrated sensor system that is currently used by Thales/ Bombardier on the Global Express* aircraft, and by Rockwell Collins on the Dassault Falcon 2000 and 900 EASy Series business aircraft. The CMA-2600 is now approved for use as an enhanced vision system for landing credits on the Dassault Falcon 7X by the EASA.

CMC’s SureSight CMA-2600i is an improved version of its certified, second-generation CMA-2600 sensor. The CMA-2600i offers enhancements in image processing within the existing hardware, as well as improvements in optics and wave band filtering. CMC’s integrated sensor system was selected by Rockwell Collins for the Bombardier Enhanced Vision System program for the Challenger 605* jet.

The newest member of CMC’s SureSight family of I-Series integrated sensor systems is the third-generation CMA-2700 selected by Rockwell Collins for the Bombardier Global Vision* flight deck. The CMA-2700 features advanced digital signal processing, a high-resolution 512 x 512 pixel focal plane array, and will be certified to the highest design assurance levels of integrity for an integrated sensor system: Level B certification to DO-178B and DO-254.
