Esterline CMC Electronics Signs Agreement with Star Navigation for Electronic Flight Bag-based Integrated Aircraft Data Monitoring

January 27th, 2011 ~ No Comments

MONTREAL – Esterline CMC Electronics has recently signed a memorandum of agreement with Star Navigation Systems Group Ltd. CMC and Star will cooperate in the establishment of an integrated, turn-key aircraft data monitoring and reporting system for Original Equipment Manufacturers. This solution is based on CMC’s PilotView® Electronic Flight Bag system capabilities and Star’s STAR-ISMS™ In-Flight Safety Monitoring System software, coupled with applications and aircraft integration services. CMC will promote the resulting solution to OEMs and select customers within the air transport and business jet markets as part of its cockpit system offerings.

Greg Yeldon, president, Esterline CMC Electronics, said: “Through this collaboration with Star, we will focus on establishing a more integrated capability built around our EFB systems, which includes the STAR-ISMS™ software, and which could increase flight safety and deliver operational efficiencies in a variety of applications, such as business jets and helicopters as well as special missions in the medical, fire fighting and military fields.”

Viraf S. Kapadia, Star’s chief executive officer said: “We’re very excited to be working with CMC to extend the implementation of our STAR-ISMS™ technology. Star sees this agreement with CMC as another step in our strategy to grow broad aviation industry acceptance for our patented in-flight data analysis, monitoring and diagnostics system technology.”

CMC’s PilotView EFB improves productivity by enabling pre-flight planning and efficient access to up-to-date aircraft documentation, checklists and flight planning information. PilotView increases situational awareness in-flight with approach charts, en-route moving map display and graphical real-time weather information. The PilotView EFB system is compact and lightweight, with a display/processor unit and aircraft interface unit that are easy to install in a variety of cockpits where space is at a premium.

Over 30 STCs are available for the PilotView EFB on aircraft ranging from the Gulfstream G-IV and G-V to the Bombardier Global Express/5000/XRS. PilotView is currently the only Class 2 EFB with factory forward-fit installation positions at aircraft OEMs. It is offered as a standard option at Dassault and ATR, and has been selected by Rockwell Collins for the Bombardier Global platform, by Embraer for the E-170/190 and Legacy/Lineage programs, by Bombardier for the CRJ700/900/1000 and by Boeing for the Next-Generation B737 and BBJ aircraft.
