One Dead in Plane Crash Near Sayward B.C.

SAYWARD, B.C. – On April 27, a small aircraft en route from Bellingham, Washington to Alaska was reported missing after it was lost on air traffic control radar near Sayward B.C.

A coordinated search with the RCMP, Canadian Coast Guard and the 442 Squadron Search and Rescue (SAR), CFB Comox was conducted and a crash site was located on Mount H’Kusam.

Members of SAR were able to rappel to the site and confirm one deceased male at the scene.

Efforts are underway to recover the deceased from the mountainous terrain and the identity of the deceased is not being released at this time.

The BC Coroners service is currently conducting an investigation with assistance from the RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
