WestJet Introduces Self-Serve Bag Tagging to the U.S.

November 24th, 2012 ~ No Comments

CALGARY, AB – WestJet today introduced self-serve baggage tagging for its guests flying to the United States from Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal. Having launched the same service November 7, 2012, in Calgary, WestJet is the first Canadian airline to introduce self-serve baggage tagging on non-stop transborder flights.

Self-serve baggage tagging allows WestJet guests to use mobile, web or kiosk check-in to check in for their flight and print their own baggage tags when they arrive at the airport. Guests checking in via kiosk may print their boarding passes and baggage tags at the same time. Once the tags have been attached, guests drop baggage off at the appropriate location.

In most Canadian airports WestJet guests have had the ability to print their own baggage tags for domestic flights since 2010. Now, WestJet is the first Canadian airline to offer the same service on selected non-stop flights to the United States.

“This is yet another milestone in our efforts to offer our guests additional self-serve options,” said Mike Hafichuk, WestJet’s Director, Planning and Support, Guest Services. “Whether it’s mobile check-in, electronic boarding passes or using our website to manage their own bookings, our guests are very comfortable with self-serve options and continue to encourage us to develop new tools to allow them more control over their travel experience.”

WestJet will expand self-serve baggage tagging to include U.S. flights from other Canadian airports in the months to come.
