Vancouver Man Charged After Air Canada Flight Diverted to Halifax Airport

HALIFAX, N.S. – A Vancouver man is now facing several charges after a plane was diverted to the Halifax Stanfield International Airport yesterday.

51-year-old Stanislav Kalmin was remanded into custody after being released from the hospital. He will be appearing in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face three charges under the Criminal Code, including Endangering Safety of Aircraft, Assault with a Weapon and Mischief. He also has been charged under Section 7.41 of the Aeronautics Act.

Yesterday morning, 4:18 a.m., police received a call that an Air Canada Flight that left from Vancouver to Heathrow was diverted to Halifax. A 51-year-old man became unruly on the flight, uttered threats and he failed to comply with the crew’s direction. The flight landed shortly after 5:00 a.m. in Halifax and RCMP took the Vancouver man into custody. He was transported to hospital in Halifax for assessment.
