BC Plane Collision Kills 2

February 10th, 2011 ~ No Comments

MISSION, BC – On Wednesday, February 9th at approximately 4:15 pm Mission RCMP received reports that two planes had crashed in the Deroche area just east of Mission, British Columbia. Upon arrival one plane was discovered partly submerged in the Nicomen Island Slough. Mission RCMP officers, North Fraser Firemen and some good samaritans waded into the slough and pulled two men from the plane. One male was pronounced dead on scene. The other male was transported by air ambulance to the Royal Columbian Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The second plane was located in a near-by farmer’s field where it had safely landed. The pilot, who was the only occupant, was uninjured.

It was later learned that these two planes along with two others had left from the Langley Airport and were flying in formation at the time of the accident. One plane apparently clipped the other’s wing causing the two to go down.

Transport Canada attended the scene as well and will be investigating to determine the exact cause of the accident.
