MIAMI – The Coast Guard responded to a downed helicopter about 20 miles east of Miami Sunday.
The Coast Guard received notification Sunday afternoon that a privately owned helicopter with one male passenger aboard made an emergency water landing between Miami and The Bahamas.
The good Samaritan vessel Contingency arrived on scene first and stayed with the helicopter until a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Drummond arrived.
The downed helicopter’s pilot was brought aboard the cutter Drummond, and is reportedly in good condition. The helicopter was taken in tow by H2O Marine Towing & Salvage.
