VANCOUVER, BC – RCMP and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria are investigating an unconfirmed report of a plane crash on the Sunshine Coast in the area of Sechelt.
JRCC in Victoria has dispatched a Cormorant helicopter from CFB Comox to conduct an aerial search but has found nothing so far.
A further aerial search will be conducted Saturday during daylight hours.
Investigators have contacted local aircraft companies and all aircraft are accounted for and there are no reports of any aircraft overdue or missing.
RCMP spokesman Sgt. Peter Thiessen said “RCMP investigators along with our partners have been unable to confirm that a plane has in fact crashed”
“The witness reporting this incident is of questionable reliability”, said Thiessen.
Investigators will continue to attempt to confirm the information received.
