PilotView® Electronic Flight Bag Receives EASA Certification on A320

February 18th, 2010 ~ No Comments

MONTREAL, CANADA – Esterline CMC Electronics’ PilotView® Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag has been granted Supplemental Type Certificate approval by the European Aviation Safety Agency for installation provisions on the A320 aircraft. The STC was developed by Aeroconseil in Toulouse, France, a leading aircraft modification and design organization. The launch airline is Air Mediterranée, the number one French charter airline for mid-haul flights.

Jean-Michel Comtois, Esterline CMC Electronics vice president, marketing and sales, government and public affairs, said, “Pilots will appreciate the added flexibility and functionality that our PilotView EFB brings to the A320 cockpit. As our Class 2 EFB operates independently of the certified avionics suite, A320 operators will have the opportunity to introduce new functionalities to the aircraft. With the PilotView CMA-1100 EFB, CMC provides features such as ‘FMS-style’ line select keys, a high-resolution, fully dimmable display, integrated communication capabilities and DO-160D qualification. We deliver robust features today with built-in flexibility for the future.”

CMC’s PilotView EFB improves productivity by enabling pre-flight planning and efficient access to up-to-date aircraft documentation, checklists and flight planning information. PilotView increases situational awareness in-flight with en-route, approach charts, moving map display and graphical real time weather information. The PilotView is a compact, lightweight system with a display/processor unit and aircraft interface unit which are to easy to install in a variety of cockpits where space is at a premium.

Eric Sperazza, Aeroconseil director of certification, aircraft modification and maintenance, underlined the ease and rapidity with which the EFBs could be installed in the cockpit. “With more than 400 modifications, Aeroconseil has proven that it has the capacity to adapt to customers’ constraints in terms of lead time and quality of installation.”

Over 24 STCs are available for the PilotView EFB on aircraft ranging from the Gulfstream GV and GIV to the Bombardier Global Express/XRS. PilotView is the standard OEM Class 2 EFB option at Dassault and ATR, and has been selected by Rockwell Collins for the Bombardier Global platform, by Embraer for the E-170/190 program, by Bombardier for the CRJ700/900/1000 and by Boeing for the Next-Generation B737 and BBJ aircraft.
